World-class automotive developments at Bosch Miskolc

Miskolc – Bosch, the leading global supplier of technologies and services, has a strategically important location in Hungary, where outstanding innovations and significant investments are made worldwide. Robert Bosch Energy and Body Systems Kft. in Miskolc is a dominant automotive company for the entire region, and one of the main employers of the area, which not only produces automotive components and electric drives but also carries out activities with high added value, such as research and development, testing and supplier development. In recent years, the company has implemented a number of capacity-building, research and development and innovation projects, and places a strong emphasis on the training and competence development of associates.

“The key to our future is continuous improvement. Therefore, research and development projects that can make our technologies better and more efficient are of paramount importance, so that they meet not only the expectations of the present but also those of the future” – said Dr. Frank-Stephan Kupfer, commercial plant manager of Robert Bosch Energy and Body Systems Kft. Launched in 2017, the project related to the electric or hybrid vehicles of the future sought to overcome five technical challenges of two vehicle components. Bosch's developers worked with the University of Miskolc and Bay Zoltán Applied Research Public Benefit Non-Profit Kft. The aim of the consortium partners was to create scientific results that can be used both in the long-term and commercially. In the GINOP-2.2.1-15-2017-00090 tender, the total cost of the project part of the Miskolc automotive company was 600 million forints, for which it received non-refundable state subsidy of 300 million forints from the European Regional Development Fund and the domestic central budget.

World-class solutions from Miskolc
The project has developed technical solutions for next generation circulating pumps and engine cooling fan units operating in the vehicle refrigeration circuit. The aim was to ensure that the service life of the devices also met the requirements of future electric or hybrid vehicles. “Thanks to our successful R&D project, a new production process and component has been created, which represents a significant step forward in the creation of the vehicles of the future” - emphasized Dr. Frank-Stephan Kupfer. In addition to technological progress, the project also resulted in the creation of new research and development capacities and competences related to electromobility among the consortium members. In connection with the further development of the products, it was possible to implement new research areas in Miskolc.
