Budapest – Dr. István Szászi, representative of the Bosch Group in Hungary and in the Adria region, received the Dennis Gabor Award in the Hungarian Parliament Building today. The award was presented at a ceremony for the 35th time this year in recognition of outstanding achievements in technological innovation, technical and engineering research. The Dennis Gabor Award, established by the Novofer Foundation in 1989, is the most prestigious prize for technical creators in the civil sector in Hungary today.
“Innovation is the engine of development, which is unimaginable without teamwork. This honor is also a tribute to the thousands of my distinguished colleagues at Bosch who have been working with me for decades to innovate for a more sustainable, more efficient, and safer world. It is also an important goal of ours to promote and support the cooperation between academia and industry, thus strengthening Hungary's innovative power. It is a great honor for me to be recognized for my work with the Dennis Gabor Award. It gives me inspiration and at the same time confirms that my colleagues and I are on the right path,” said Dr. István Szászi.

A career focused on innovation
Dr. István Szászi was born in Mátészalka and studied at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (short form: BME). He graduated in 1997 with a degree in automotive engineering, followed by a PhD in 2004 and an MBA in 2005. He started his career in academia: after graduating from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, he worked as a doctoral student, professor’s assistant, and then assistant professor at the university. He has been working for the Bosch Group for almost 20 years: started as a project engineer, became head of Engineering Center Budapest and since 2021 he is the representative of the Bosch Group in Hungary and in the Adria region.
Dr. István Szászi is responsible for more than 23,000 Bosch employees in the region, including thousands of development engineers in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. He is involved in several mentoring programs for leaders and is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Engineering, an honorary docent at BME, a member of the board of trustees of the German-Hungarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Rudolf Kalman Foundation for Óbuda University and a member of the board of the Joint Venture Association (JVSZ). In 2023, he joined the Board of Trustees of the Fudan University Hungary Foundation. In 2022, his outstanding work for innovation and the development of electromobility was recognized with the Blue Innovation Special Award, a joint prize of the National Association of Managers and Volkswagen.
